Even with the extension my Kodak zi8 is right against the window. I really like the mount but felt that the description was a little inaccurate. It would be perfect if the arm was a little longer so that you can clear the angle of the windshield. It did not fit on both of my cars and I needed to contact the company to have them send me an extension. Thankfully they were very responsive and sent the extension out right away free of charge. It also does not work with my P&S pocket camera. Otherwise I think it's solid and holds the video camera well.
I know there are lots of negative reviews on this product BUT it seems all those people bought the fake mount. Sometimes Amazon isn't the lowest cost but I have found the Amazon prices can be less than a few cents or dollars more. Do not buy this mount from anyone except a reputable dealer like Amazon so you get the real panavise mount.
I needed the extension arm and a quick call to Panavise solved that issue. ALWAYS be sure to you look at who it's sold by. I bought mine direct from Amazon and this mount is STURDY and isn't going anywhere once you attach it.
NOTE: Just because you make a purchase on Amazon doesn't mean it is sold by Amazon. They shipped the extension arm out same day at no charge. I used 3 different Canon point and shoot cameras and they all worked great.
I always make sure it shows "sold and shipped by Amazon", this way I know it's legit stuff. I have a Prime acct so even if AMZ cost a few $$ more the free shipping makes up for that.
I used this to mount a video camera to my motorcycle helmet. If you are going to do the same I suggest you use a lanyard incase the suction cup comes loose. I am pleased with the quality of the mount and how well the suction cup stays in place while baring the weight of my camera.
Great window mount. If yours has a patent number on the base and did not come with an extension arm, call PanaVise and they will send you one free.
Works very well except it needs an extension arm. I've tried several camcorders and point and shoot cameras in my car with this mount. Both have to be inverted because the sloping windshield blocks them from being mounted upright. Vibration only became a problem only when using a heavy camcorder.
